Atticus
Hello, my name is Atticus and I am excited to be a summer student for the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition for July and August 2024. While I am originally from Markham, I spend my summers at my grandparents’ cottage in Keswick. At the cottage, we use the water every day, from swimming to kayaking to waterskiing, so the health of the lake and its ecosystem is extremely important to me. I graduated from Bill Hogarth Secondary School in 2023 and now study political science, history, and philosophy at McGill University.
At the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition, I primarily work on finding community outreach events and attending them to raise awareness for environmental issues in the Lake Simcoe area. You can email me at rlsc.csj@gmail.com for any inquiries!
Morgan
Hi, my name is Morgan. This fall, I will be starting my second year of Conservation Biology at Trent University, which is why I am thrilled to be working with the RLSC this summer on some amazing environmental projects. As a resident of the Lake Simcoe watershed, I have always felt a sense of responsibility to protect the wonderfully diverse environment that I call home. Lake Simcoe has been the foreground of some of my favourite memories, which is why my main objective this summer is to educate people on how to keep the lake clean and healthy so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the water.
I am proud to contribute to the work of the RLSC by organizing and attending educational outreach events within the watershed. I also work to create blogs, press releases, and social media posts about the current threats against Lake Simcoe in order to promote action within the community. Keep your eyes peeled this summer for my posts regarding road salt, plankton, beach closures, and toxic algae blooms. If you have any questions relating to Lake Simcoe or there’s a topic you’d like me to address, you can email me at rlsc.intern@gmail.com. I look forward to connecting with other passionate environmentalists across Lake Simcoe and want to further thank the RLSC for these amazing opportunities.
